PRESERVATION SPECIAL PROGRAMMING: A PRESENTATION BY PETER FEND, JAN. 16

Los Angeles curator Aurora Tang introduces a public presentation by Peter Fend of Ocean Earth. "Model Basin for a World in Danger" will be the closing event for "Preservation," on view at the Barrick Museum of Art through January 20, 2018.

Ocean Earth is a development corporation invented for a group of artists, co-founded in 1980 by artist Peter Fend, a key figure working at the intersection of art and ecosystems.

Fend writes:

“Extreme instability, i.e., nonstop war, happens in and around the Middle East and North Africa, extending to far west China. Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, Libya, Algeria, Sinai, Syria, Lake Chad, Somalia, Takla Makan, Aral Sea: all these places have one fact in common, not enough water. Something must be done."

Tamar was born and raised in South Florida and graduated from Florida State University. She currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada where through her work at MentalHappy continues to impact humans across US, Canada and United Kingdom. In her free time, she enjoys meditation, cooking and hiking.

The Marjorie Barrick Museum of of Art features a special look into the art and science of color theory with Julie Oppermann. Find out what it means to think about vision as an active process in the brain, not just the eye.

Informed by Oppermann’s neuroscience background as well as her active international painting practice, this presentation will "touch on everyone from 19th-century French chemist Michel Eugène Chevreul to Op Art’s Bridget Riley as we travel through the history of color theory in Europe and its journey to the US."
